Síntesis biográfica

Pocos artistas en Venezuela cuentan con la fortuna del afecto y la admiración tan rotunda de la ciudad que los vio nacer, como el que expresa Barquisimeto y los barquisimetanos por el maestro Jesús Armando Villalón.

Nacido en la capital del estado Lara el 6 de julio de 1945 en el seno de una familia de clase media emergente, el hoy reconocido paisajista incursionó en las artes plásticas siendo padre de familia y tras haber construido una sólida estabilidad económica y laboral, gracias a sus habilidades para los negocios.

Sin embargo, esos logros muy bien merecidos, producto de su trabajo y esfuerzo por garantizar el bienestar para su familia, no amilanaron sus más profundos deseos juveniles de ser pintor. Cerca de los 30 años de edad, en 1974, inició su preparación formal en las artes plásticas inscribiéndose en el taller de arte del maestro Ramón Díaz Lugo, uno de los más consecuentes discípulos del maestro Rafael Monasterios, a quien se le considera parte de los precursores del movimiento paisajístico en Venezuela a principio de siglo XX.

Casi de inmediato el joven Villalón demostró cualidades extraordinarias para recrear el paisaje. Disciplinado en sus lecciones, pero sin empeñar sus convicciones plásticas, rápidamente logró definir un estilo propio caracterizado por el trazo fuerte y corto, ampliamente inspirado en los maestros impresionistas de Europa, cuya obra tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar a profundidad gracias al apoyo indisoluble de su esposa Ysabel, quien junto a sus dos pequeños hijos, no titubeó en embarcarse junto al artista en su periplo por complementar su formación artística en el viejo continente.

En 1981, el maestro Villalón arribó a la capital española, donde tomó clases de dibujo y pintura en el prestigioso Estudio Arjona y en el Taller de Serigrafía y Grabado de Madrid. Para entonces, la obra del “Pintor del Turbio” era ampliamente conocida en las principales ciudades de Venezuela: Caracas, Valencia, Maracay, Maracaibo y por supuesto su natal Barquisimeto, donde había conquistado galerías y centros de exposición de alto prestigio.

Pero una vez más, su inconformidad natural lo llevó alejarse de la comodidad de la fama, para continuar con su búsqueda insaciable por la excelencia, travesía que había comenzado en España con el estudio meticuloso de los impresionistas, especialmente de los pintores ibéricos Joaquín Sorolla y Joaquín Mir, de cuya obra se confiesa un cautivo durante esta etapa de su vida. La aleccionadora experiencia por Europa la completó su paso breve pero intenso por París, Londres, Roma, Munich y Amsterdam, siempre tras las huellas de los grandes maestros del arte universal.

De nuevo en Venezuela, a mediados de la década del 80, consigue madurar su trazo. Y tras arduas indagaciones sobre las tonalidades de la luz en los sucesivos 30 años, el maestro Villalón logra consolidarse como un laureado creador de atmosferas. Su paleta es tan cromática como genuina por lo que rápidamente fue embestido por la crítica y los coleccionistas con el título: “Pintor de la Bruma”.

Como era de esperarse, las sobrecogedoras escenas de firmamentos indescifrables o el embriagador cúmulo de sensaciones que generan sus espacios cerrados, no tardaron en despertar el interés de galerías, museos y salas de exposiciones en todo el país. Las conquistas de estos espacios y en las puntuales confrontaciones artísticas en las que decidía participar, porque nunca se vio a sí mismo como un cazador de premios, reivindicaron el paisaje en la escena plástica nacional y más allá de sus latitudes.

Investigador inquieto y perseverante, el maestro Villalón innova constantemente y sin conformarse con facilidad. Su obra es el resultado de un trabajo disciplinado, formal y planificado que le ha garantizado la coherencia plástica necesaria para ser exaltado como un Maestro.

Las cuatro décadas de trayectoria que lo embisten lo convierten en un referente del arte contemporáneo nacional y un embajador del paisaje venezolano en la actualidad, cuando su obra es ampliamente apetecida y valorada en otros países, principalmente Estados Unidos.

Biographical Synopsis

Few artists in Venezuela have the fortune to have the outright affection and admiration of the city where they were born, as expressed by Barquisimeto and its citizens for the Master Jesus Armando Villalón.

Born in the capital of Lara state, on July 6th, 1945, in the midst of a middle class family. The well known landscaper, dabbled in the arts of being a parent, having built a solid economic stability, thanks to his business skills.
However, those deserved achievements, product of hard work for the welfare of his family, not daunted his deepest youthful desire to be a painter. Close to turning 30 years old in 1974, Villalón began his formal training in the arts and enrolled at the Art Studio of Artist Ramon Diaz Lugo, one of the most consistent disciples of the master Rafael Monasterios, who is considered as part of the forerunners of landscape movement in Venezuela, in the early twentieth century.

Almost immediately, the young Villalón demonstrated extraordinary qualities to recreate the landscape. Disciplined in his lessons, but without pawning his plastic convictions, quickly he managed to define his own style, characterized by strong and short stroke. This style is inspired by the Impressionist masters of Europe, wich Villalón had the opportunity to study in depth, thanks to the unconditional support of his wife Ysabel, who along with her two small children, did not hesitate to embark with the artist on a journey to complete his artistic training in the old continent.

In 1981, the master Villalon arrived in the Spanish capital, where he took classes in drawing and painting at the prestigious Arjona study and in the printing workshop and engraving of Madrid. By then the work of "Rio Turbio Painter" was widely known in the main cities of Venezuela, like Caracas, Valencia, Maracay, Maracaibo and Barquisimeto, his hometown, where he won galleries and exhibition centers of high prestige.
But once again, his natural discontent led him away from the comfort of fame, to continue the relentless pursuit of excellence. This journey had begun in Spain with the meticulous study of the Impressionists, especially the Iberian painters Joaquin Sorolla y Joaquín Mir, whose work he confesses captive, at this stage of his life.
The learning experience in Europe, was completed by his brief but intense passing through Paris, London, Munich and Amsterdam, always in the footsteps of the great masters of universal art.

Back in Venezuela, in the mid-80s, Villalon matures his stroke. After arduous inquiries into the shades of light in the succeeding 30 years, he manages to consolidate as laureate creator of atmospheres. His palette is as genuine as color, so quickly was savaged by critics and collectors with the title: “Painter of the mist”.

As expected, the overwhelming scenes of indecipherable skies, or the intoxicating wealth of sensations that generate their enclosed spaces, soon arouse the interest of galleries, museums and exhibition halls across the country. Although the master Villalón never saw himself as a hunter awards, the achievements of these spaces and artistic confrontations in which decided to participate, claimed the landscape in the national art scene and beyond their latitudes.

Restless and persevering investigator, Villalón constantly innovates and never settle for with ease. His work is the result of a disciplined, formal work and planned that ensured the plastic consistency necessary to be exalted as a master.
The four decades of experience he has, make him a national benchmark of contemporary art and landscape Venezuelan ambassador, because his work is widely coveted and valued in other countries, especially in the United States.
